What Does a Community Engagement Consultant Do? Turning Community Needs Into Meaningful Impact
Written by Tiffany McIntyre, MSW, CDP, CADDCT

A successful community program requires more than reserving a room, inviting vendors, or choosing a speaker. It requires someone who can identify the community’s real needs, bring the right partners together, educate participants, and turn a good idea into an experience that creates measurable impact. That is the work of a Community Engagement and Dementia Care Consultant.
I help healthcare organizations, churches, senior-care communities, businesses, and community groups strengthen dementia care, support caregivers, train professionals, plan conferences and health fairs, and connect families with trusted resources. My approach is grounded in social work, practical education, compassionate leadership, and nearly a decade of building community partnerships.
Whether an organization needs caregiver education, Certified Dementia Practitioner training, an engaging wellness presentation, or support for a community expo, my purpose remains the same: educate people so they understand, equip them with useful tools, and connect them so no one has to navigate care, wellness, or community challenges alone in today’s increasingly complex systems.
When a Good Idea Needs the Right Strategy
Many organizations want to serve their communities but are unsure where to begin.
A church may want to host a health fair but not know which organizations to invite. A senior-care community may recognize that families need dementia education but lack the staff or curriculum to provide it. A healthcare organization may want to reach underserved populations but need trusted community relationships to make that outreach effective.
Sometimes the vision is clear, but the pathway is not.
This is where my work begins.
I listen carefully, identify the need, determine who should be involved, and help build a practical strategy. Depending on the organization, that strategy may include developing an educational program, coordinating community partners, training staff, organizing a conference, or connecting families with appropriate resources.
My role is to help transform a meaningful idea into an organized, accessible, and impactful experience.
My Approach: Educate, Equip, and Connect
My work is centered on three essential actions.
Educate
Education replaces uncertainty with understanding.
I provide dementia education, brain-health presentations, caregiver workshops, mental-health and aging programs, faith-based presentations, and professional training.
These educational experiences are designed for:
Healthcare professionals
Family caregivers
Churches and faith communities
Senior-living organizations
Community groups
Conference audiences
Businesses and organizational teams
My goal is to make complex topics understandable, relatable, and practical. Participants should leave knowing more than they did when they arrived—and understanding how to apply what they learned.
Equip
Information becomes more valuable when people know what to do with it.
Caregivers need realistic tools for managing stress, responding to behavioral changes, communicating effectively, finding support, and preparing for changing care needs.
Professionals need training that strengthens their knowledge, confidence, and approach to caring for people living with dementia.
Organizations need strategies, resources, and systems that help programs continue beyond a single event.
I also provide a seven-hour dementia-care training that prepares eligible professionals to apply for Certified Dementia Practitioner certification. The training equips participants with practical knowledge that can improve the quality and compassion of dementia care.
Connect
A valuable resource cannot help someone who does not know it exists or cannot access it.
Community engagement involves more than sharing flyers or providing a list of telephone numbers. It requires trust, communication, relationships, and consistent follow-through.
I serve as a bridge among:
Individuals and families
Churches and faith leaders
Healthcare providers
Senior-care organizations
Businesses
Nonprofit organizations
Government agencies
Community service providers
Bringing these groups together creates stronger partnerships and helps people access education, services, and support more easily.
Nearly a Decade of Building Community Partnerships
For nearly a decade, I have helped convene community partners representing nonprofit organizations, healthcare systems, businesses, government agencies, and faith-based organizations.
Through this work, I have seen what becomes possible when the right people gather around a shared purpose.
A health fair can become an opportunity for someone to identify a serious health concern. A caregiver conference can help a family realize they are not alone. A dementia workshop can change how a professional communicates with a patient. A community expo can introduce families to services they did not know were available.
Events should do more than fill a room. They should help people receive information, establish relationships, access resources, and take meaningful next steps.
That is why I approach every event with purpose.
Conference and Community-Event Planning
Successful events require vision, organization, communication, and careful attention to detail.
I assist organizations with planning and coordinating:
Health fairs
Caregiver conferences
Community resource expos
Educational workshops
Church and faith-based programs
Professional training events
Community wellness experiences
Support may include clarifying the event’s purpose, developing programming, identifying speakers, engaging vendors and community partners, coordinating logistics, and creating an experience that feels intentional from beginning to end.
I do not simply consider what will happen during the event. I also consider what participants should understand, feel, and be prepared to do after the event ends.
Dementia Education and Caregiver Support
Dementia affects more than memory. It can affect communication, judgment, mood, behavior, safety, relationships, and daily routines.
Caregivers are often expected to manage these changes while also balancing employment, family responsibilities, finances, and their own health. Many receive little preparation for the role.
Through caregiver education and dementia-care consultation, I help families and organizations better understand:
Changes associated with dementia
Practical communication strategies
Caregiver stress and compassion fatigue
Home and personal safety
The importance of respite and support
Available community resources
Preparing for changing care needs
The goal is not to create a perfect care plan. The goal is to create a more informed, compassionate, and sustainable system of support around the person living with dementia and the caregiver walking beside them.
Speaking That Educates and Inspires
Speaking gives me another opportunity to turn information into personal action.
My signature presentations include:
The Science of Happiness
A faith- and wellness-centered presentation that explores mindset, emotional resilience, whole-person health, and the intentional pursuit of joy.
Brain Health Is Mental Health
An engaging presentation connecting brain health, emotional wellness, prevention, aging, and practical lifestyle choices.
Additional speaking and training topics include:
Faith and community
Mental health and aging
Caregiver stress and compassion fatigue
Grief and isolation
Building resilient communities
Community partnership development
Every presentation is designed to educate, encourage, and equip. My goal is for audience members to recognize themselves in the message and leave with practical tools they can use.
Wellness Is Also Community Care
Strong communities depend on the wellness of the people within them.
As a Certified Juice Therapist and founder of BamaGirl LifeJuice, I also promote intentional wellness through fresh juice blends, LifeTeas, education, and mindful daily choices.
BamaGirl LifeJuice was created around the message, “Drinking Yourself to Wellness.”
Wellness does not require perfection. It can begin with one healthier decision, one meaningful conversation, or one intentional step toward caring for your body, mind, and spirit.
This whole-person perspective influences everything I do—from caregiver support and brain-health education to speaking, training, and community engagement.
Does Your Organization Need a Community Engagement Consultant?
Your organization may benefit from consultation or program support if:
You have a strong event idea but need help organizing it.
You want to build trusted community partnerships.
Your staff needs practical dementia-care education.
Caregivers in your community need education and support.
You want to host a health fair, conference, or community expo.
Your organization needs an engaging speaker or trainer.
You want to connect families with useful community resources.
You need help turning outreach activities into a sustainable program.
You do not need to have every detail figured out before requesting support. The first step is identifying the need and beginning the conversation.
Building Stronger Communities Together
I believe meaningful community impact happens when people are educated, equipped, and connected.
Every conversation can uncover an unmet need. Every partnership can open a door. Every training can strengthen the care someone receives. Every well-planned event can connect a family with information or services that improve their quality of life.
My work is not simply about organizing programs. It is about creating experiences that help people feel seen, supported, informed, and empowered.
If your church, healthcare organization, senior-care community, business, or community group is ready to strengthen dementia care, support caregivers, educate professionals, plan an impactful event, or build stronger partnerships, I would welcome the opportunity to help.
